Swiss Environmental Organisations

Switzerland is a model for environmental policy and practice. Here are some of the organisations which are protecting the Swiss and the world's environment.

Switzerland has a system based on federalism. The liberal and conservative (bourgeois) parties have enjoyed two thirds of the electorate share for more than 100 years, with the leftist parties taking up the remaining support.

The federal-level parties are as follows:

  • Bürgerlich-Demokratische Partei (BDP)
  • "Popular" Democratic Party, conservative, middle to right

  • Christlichdemokratische Volkspartei (CVP)
  • Christian Democratic Party, conservative, middle to right

  • FDP.Die Liberalen (FDP)
  • The Liberal Radicals, bourgeois, middle-right. (Con-)fusion of FDP (Freisinnig-Demokratischen Partei) and LPE (Liberalen Partei der Schweiz) in 2009.

  • Grüne Partei der Schweiz (GPS)
  • Green Party of Switzerland, left

  • Grünliberale Partei (GLP)
  • Liberal Greens

  • Sozialdemokratische Partei der Schweiz (SP)
  • Social Democratic Party, left, social equality

  • Swiss "People's Party", right-wing, xenophobic
